What's with the rocks?

You'll notice the rocks dotting our Website. As you might know, the stacked, often precariously balanced rocks are called cairns. They have been around for literally thousands of years, dotting the countryside across Scotland and Ireland and showing up in similar forms around the world.

One of the many reasons people built cairns was to mark trails and pathways – helping travelers find their way in a kind of pre-modern GPS system.

So what’s the connection? In fact, there are two.

First, like cairns, we see solutions as “pointing the way” toward deeper customer satisfaction, higher revenue opportunities, and a more competitive business model. As more and more products and services fall prey to commodity pressures, solutions represent an alternative path.

At the same time, solutions require an often difficult balancing act with customers and partners. As cairn makers have to master the art of balancing different shaped stones to create a solid stack, so too do solutions providers have to balance the necessary assets within, across, and outside their organizations.

Easy to do? No way. It often requires significant and fundamental change. Done effectively, however, it's well worth the effort. Viewing cairns like the ones on our website, it's hard to think they are anything but fragile and temporary. For the ones built carefully and thoughtfully, they’ll be saying this for years to come.
